Verify and keep your file

The verifier flow and the credential file it hands you.

You verify once with a regulated verifier. The verifier checks who you are, commits four attributes to your wallet, and gives you the credential file you prove from.

Start a verification#

  1. Sign in. Open the Passport and connect the wallet the credential is for.

  2. Press Verify once. Writ opens a session with the verifier for your wallet and sends you to the verifier's own page.

  3. Complete the verifier's checks. The verifier establishes your residency, investor status, age and screening, and keeps that record itself.

  4. Approve the credential in your wallet. Your signature is your consent and pays the small rent of the credential account. The verifier co-signs and submits it.

  5. Take your credential file. The verifier hands you a file with your four values and their salts, then sends you back to Writ. The Passport shows your credential as Live once Solana finalizes it, usually within half a minute.

The credential file#

The file is a small JSON document:

{
  "values": ["0", "2", "34", "1791245000"],
  "salts": ["1043…", "8820…", "5517…", "2391…"]
}

The values are your residency code, status level, attested age and screening time; the salts make each commitment impossible to guess. Without the file you cannot prove a rule set, and nobody else needs it.

  • Load it in the Passport with Load file. The app recomputes your four commitments and confirms the file belongs to your current credential.
  • Keep it on this device stores it in this browser until you remove it. Leave it unticked to load it for this visit only.
  • Back it up like any private document. If you lose it, verify again to get a new credential and file.

Renew#

Verify again when your credential nears its expiry, when your circumstances change, or after a revocation. The new credential moves to the next epoch and comes with a new file; load the new one and prove your rule sets again.
