Getting started

Writ docs

What Writ does, for whom, and where to start.

Writ lets a wallet show that it meets an asset issuer's eligibility rule without showing who owns it. A regulated verifier checks a person once and commits four attributes to their wallet. For each permissioned asset, the wallet proves the issuer's rule set with a 256-byte zero-knowledge proof, and Solana writes a rule pass that every transfer of that asset reads.

  1. Verify onceA regulated verifier checks who you are and commits four attributes to your wallet.
  2. ProveYour device proves a rule set from your credential file. Solana checks the proof.
  3. Rule passWrit writes a pass for your wallet and that rule set, with an expiry and the epoch.
  4. TransferEach transfer of a bound mint reads the pass, the credential and the verifier.
From one verification to every transfer

Who uses Writ#

  • Holders verify once, keep a small credential file on their own device, and prove the rule sets of the assets they want to hold.
  • Issuers write rule sets as everyday conditions, bind them to Token-2022 mints, and issue only to wallets that hold a live pass.
  • Verifiers are regulated providers. They check identity, issue credentials to wallets, revoke them, and keep the identity record.
  • Governance registers verifiers, holds the proof circuit's verifying key, and can pause Writ.

What each side keeps#

Your attribute values never reach Solana. The chain stores a commitment to each value, the rule sets, and the passes wallets have proved. An issuer reads which wallets hold a live pass for its rule set, by address. The verifier keeps the identity record it checked, and it alone handles any legal request to see it.

The app#

The Writ app has three sections:

  • Passport shows your credential, every rule set with your standing, your passes and the assets you hold.
  • Issuer writes rule sets, creates and binds mints, and issues to holders.
  • Network shows governance, verifiers and the proof circuit, and lets the admin and verifiers act.
